Season 2024

Below are the main shows staged for the 2024 summer season.

Sophocles' Ajax

One of the highlights of the 2024 season will be a performance of Sophocles' “Ajax.” The play, which will debut on May 22, tells the tragic story of Ajax, one of the greatest heroes of the Trojan War, known for his strength and courage.

The plot explores deep themes such as honor, betrayal and madness, offering a reflection on human frailties.

The play will be staged at 7 p.m. in May and 7:30 p.m. in June, with an average running time of about one hour and forty minutes.

Phaedra by Euripides

Another great classic on the program is Euripides' “Phaedra,” which will be presented starting May 19. This Greek drama tells the story of Phaedra, the wife of Theseus, and her forbidden love for her stepson Hippolytus. The play focuses on human passions and tragedies, offering an intense and dramatic view of family dynamics and uncontrollable emotions.

As with “Ajax,” performances will begin at 7 p.m. in May and 7:30 p.m. in June.

Aristophanes' The Women in the Parliament

Comedy will be no different, with the staging of Aristophanes' “The Women in Parliament” scheduled for June 21. This play offers a lively satire of Athenian politics, telling the story of a group of women who, disguised as men, manage to take control of the city assembly. Through sharp irony, Aristophanes highlights the contradictions and paradoxes of the society of the time, offering insights that are still relevant today.

Special Events and Collateral Initiatives

In addition to the great classics, INDA's 2024 season includes a series of special events and collateral initiatives. These include lectures and seminars given by experts in theater and classical studies, who will offer insights into the works on the program and the issues addressed. In addition, workshops and laboratories will be organized to bring the public closer to theatrical practice and the world of ancient drama.
