Founded with the intention of enhancing the rich musical heritage of the seventeenth and eighteenThe Sicilian Baroque Orchestra: a journey into Early Musicth centuries, the orchestra is distinguished by the use of original instruments or faithful copies, capable of restoring to the public the authentic sound of the past.
Through immersive concerts, the OBS offers an experience that combines history and music, bringing to life works by composers such as Vivaldi, Haendel, Bach and lesser-known Sicilian composers.
Discovering the Sicilian Baroque Orchestra
The Sicilian Baroque Orchestra focuses on the philological interpretation of Baroque music, which means that works are performed as closely as possible to how they were originally intended. Period instruments, such as baroque violins, harpsichords, and transverse flutes, make it possible to reproduce the sounds typical of the period.
This rigorous approach, combined with careful historical research, allows the audience to immerse themselves in an atmosphere that evokes the Baroque courts and churches of the 17th and 18th centuries. The OBS is thus more than just an orchestra: it is a true bridge to the past, an opportunity to hear music in a guise that reflects its original context.
Where are the concerts held?
The Sicilian Baroque Orchestra regularly performs in several Sicilian cities, including Syracuse, Palermo and Catania, often in evocative churches and historic theaters. In Syracuse, performances are generally held in the center of Ortigia, the heart of the city.

In November, the OBS will present “Virtuosismi Barocchi”, a concert that will highlight the complex instrumental techniques that characterize this period of music. This event will be a tribute to the great compositions of the European Baroque, with a focus on the virtuosity of the soloists.
In December, on the other hand, the orchestra will offer the traditional “Christmas Concert”, an atmospheric event that, through the union of instruments and voices, will bring to the public a repertoire dedicated to the holidays.
Performances will take place in historic locations such as Sicilian churches and theaters, further enriching the sound experience with settings that reflect the era of the music performed.
