Scicli
Scicli is a picturesque Sicilian town, located in the province of Ragusa, in the heart of the Val di Noto. This beautiful town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, along with other towns in the Val di Noto such as Ragusa, Noto and Modica.
Scicli is famous for its Baroque architecture, with Baroque-style buildings and churches adorning the streets of the historic center. Among Scicli's main attractions, one cannot fail to mention the Church of San Giovanni Battista, the Beneventano Palace, and the Spadaro Palace, all splendid examples of Sicilian Baroque art.
To reach Scicli from Syracuse by car in about an hour and a half: follow the SS115 until you reach the town of Modica, then take the SP42 provincial road to Scicli. Alternatively, you can use public transportation: regional trains leave from Syracuse and arrive in Ragusa, from which you can take a bus to Scicli. Although it takes a little longer, the bus trip allows you to admire the Sicilian landscape in all its beauty.
Ragusa Ibla
Ragusa Ibla is one of the most beautiful villages in Sicily and, like Scicli, is located in the province of Ragusa, in the Val di Noto. This ancient medieval town was built on a hill, with a maze of winding, narrow streets. Due to its beauty and history, Ragusa Ibla has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Among the main attractions in Ragusa Ibla are the Cathedral of St. George, the Donnafugata Castle, and the Ibleo Museum. St. George's Cathedral, in particular, is a splendid Baroque church built in the 1700s and one of the town's main attractions.
To reach Ragusa Ibla from Syracuse by car, you can take the A18 highway in the direction of Catania, exit at Rosolini and follow the signs for Ragusa. The journey takes about an hour and a half. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Syracuse to the Ragusa bus station, from which you can reach Ragusa Ibla on foot or by cab.
Castel Mola
Castel Mola is a charming medieval village located in the province of Messina, about 100 kilometers from Syracuse. This ancient village is situated on the top of a hill, with panoramic views of the sea and surrounding mountains.
The main attractions of Castel Mola include the Castle of Frederick II, the Church of St. Nicholas of Bari, and the Clock Tower. The Castle of Frederick II is a large fortress that dates back to the 13th century and stands majestically over the village. The Church of San Nicolò di Bari, on the other hand, is a religious building built in the 14th century, with Gothic architecture and a beautiful bell tower.
To reach Castel Mola from Syracuse by car, you can drive along the A18 highway towards Messina, exit at Taormina and follow the signs for Castel Mola. The drive takes about two hours. Caltagirone
Caltagirone is a picturesque town located in the southeastern part of Sicily, known for the production of ceramics and the art of nativity scenes. The city, situated on the hillside of the Monti Iblei, offers spectacular views of the Southern Imera Valley.
Highlights include the steps of Santa Maria del Monte, decorated with colorful majolica tiles depicting scenes from local life, and the Regional Museum of Ceramics, which houses a large collection of ceramics from all over Sicily.
